It's spring and personal property tax time again!!
By Debbie Lowe Staff writer

It has been said that the only sure things are death and taxes. No one knows when they are going to die, but personal property tax time rolls around every year in the spring, and this year is no different!

Carroll County Assessor Doris McLeland announced the deadline for filing is May 15. Failure to file on time will result in a penalty for the property owner.

According to McLeland, township trustees will send forms in the mail. Completed forms are to be returned to the trustee, or taxpayers can visit the assessor's office, with the original form, for help completing them.

Campers, RVs and flat bottom boats will be assessed. Antique tractors, three or fourwheelers and pop-up campers will not be assessed.

Farmers note: All equipment in hog buildings will be assessed this year. All inventory listed and calculated will be subtracted from the original assessment.

New business equipment may qualify for an exemption. It is recommended the property owner consult with the trustee or assessor's office to determine eligibility for an exemption.
