New displays shed light on DCHS scholarships Carroll County businesses, organizations and individuals offer about 60 scholarships annually to Delphi Community High School students. It seems only fitting to display plaques honoring both givers and receivers out for all to see. Such was the mindset of Delphi Community High School's Class of 1975 when they decided to donate a display case to the school. The class employed the services of local craftsman Curt Owen to produce a case which would house a class of '75 scholarship plaque along with a few others from the community. Norm Miller, who sponsored the class of '75, said the community deserves recognition for such generosity. "This community is very giving of scholarships," Miller explained. "They just need a little credit." Class of '75 graduate Ken Walton, who was credited for suggesting at the reunion to display the plaques, said he hopes other organizations will follow suit. "The awards will be visible to the students and the public," Walton said. "That should help raise awareness that the scholarships are available." Classmate Jerry Sparks added the new display would draw attention to those who provide the scholarships and help improve the school atmosphere. "The case looks great," Sparks began. "The school has had some of the same display cases in here since we were students. This is a great way to display these achievements," he concluded. Staff and visitors to the high school liked the cases so much they had two similar cases made to house a variety of scholastic and athletic honors. Miller said he was happy the new case was received well. "We appreciate what the school and the community do," he said. "This is simply a way to display that appreciation." |
