Actions are louder than words
      The Carroll County Council needs to be commended for its proactive approach to learning that the county may have a significant shortfall in reserve funds. Rather than point fingers, the council formed a three-person committee of its own members to learn the facts.

Takes exception with remark
      At the Feb. 19 commissioner's meeting a noted Carroll County business person stated retired persons do not contribute to the economy. As a retired county resident (taxpaying for 45 years), I deem this remark a blatant, absurd, disrespectful attack directed toward retired senior citizens.

Clean-up after your dog
      This has bothered me for a while now and I feel that something should be done about it. First, let me ask you one question - would you take your dog to potty on your family's grave stones? I would hope everyone would answer no. I pass the Camden Cemetery almost every day.

Give FDA authority over tobacco products
      If our government leaders are really serious about lowering health care costs and reducing unnecessary diseases, a very important step would be the passage of long overdue, bipartisan legislation granting the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authority over tobacco products.
