Church women practice for annual service
Church women from nine area churches practiced Feb. 22 for a worship service to be held Friday to commemorate the international World Day of Prayer. Church members in the community have participated in the celebration since the early 1980s, according to 2007 coordinator Jerrie Arney. The theme for 2007 is "United Under God's Tent" and was written by the women of Paraguay. Women and men in more than 170 countries and regions will celebrate that day with a service which will follow the sun across the globe. The local community service will be held at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 1301 South Washington Ave. in Delphi. Prayer leaders pictured around the table, left to right, are Virginia Thompson from Delphi First Presbyterian Church, Holly Stewart of the Penecostal Church of Delphi, Betty Allen of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Frances Hathaway of Radnor United Methodist Church, Marlene Collins of Delphi Wesleyan Church, Kathy LaFond of St. Joseph, Shirley Goyar of the Delphi United Methodist Church, Mary McDonald of the Living Faith Church of the Brethren and Winifred Beard of the Delphi Christian Church.
