Knights spear Cougars A big first half gave Class A, fifth ranked Lafayette Central Catholic a share of the Hoosier Heartland Conference title after blowing away Carroll 85- 45 Friday night in Memorial Gymnasium. The loss dropped Carroll to 7-13 and 2-3 in the HHC, while Central Catholic is 14-6 and 4-1. The Cougars never led in this one. A Riley Eller fielder tied the game at 2 all and as it turned out, this could be Carroll's last hurrah. The Knights went on a 19-0 run to pull away from the Cougars. The visitors led 27-7 after one, 53-16 at the half, and 70-26 at the end of three quarters. Central Catholic was lights out in all aspects of the game. In the first half they went 6 of 8 from behind the arch, 13 of 16 for 2-pointers, 19 of 24 overall, and 9 of 12 from the foul line. Carroll, on the other hand, was 1 of 8 from behind the arch, 6 of 15 for 2-pointers, 7 of 23 overall, and 1 of 4 from the line. The second half was much more competitive. The Knights tallied 32 points and the Cougars kept pace with 29 points. The Cougars held CC to 9 of 23 from the field, while going 10 of 23 themselves. Both teams used their benches freely in the second half. Overall, The Cougars shot a poor 2 of 14 on treys and 17 of 46 overall from the field. They were 9 of 19 from the line. CC went 7 of 13 on treys, 28 of 47 overall, and 22 of 29 from the line. Adam Tussinger led the Cougars in scoring with 18 points. Eller added 11. JV keeps winning record Carroll Junior Varsity finished their season with a 42-37 win over the Knights. The victory gave the Cougars an 11-9 season record; 2-3 in the HHC. Two ties and two lead changes occurred in the first half before Primmer Zook gave Carroll the lead for good at 8-5. The Cougars led at all steps, 15-9 after one, 20-17 at the half, and 29-19 at the end of three. Adam Spesard led all scorers with 11 points. Zook and Drew Yoder had 9 points each and Justin Brown chipped in with 8 points. |
