Carroll approves administrator raises

Carroll School Board approved increases in administrators' salaries for 2006-2007 at its Feb. 7 meeting.

Carroll Elementary principal Carolyn O'Connell will receive a 1 1/2 percent increase, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2006, and her contract is extended through June 2010.

A 2 1/2 percent increase was given to junior-senior high school principal Charles Huckstep and assistant principal Fred Schnarr, and to elementary assistant principal Natalie McQuade. Their increase is retroactive to July 1, 2006. Their current contracts go through June 2008.

Superintendent John Sayer's salary was increased 1 1/2 percent, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2006, and his contract was extended through June 2010.

The following courses will be offered in summer school 2007: World History and Civilizations (semesters 1 and 2), biology (semester 1 only), Summer Agriculture Experience, English, Math, and Driver's Education. Sayers announced summer school dates as May 30 to June 26. He said Jump Start will be July 30 to Aug. 10.

The board accepted the resignation of Breann Falkenberg as varsity volleyball coach.

The following conference requests were approved:

Natalie McQuade and Kathy Sanders will attend "How to Help the Student With Diabetes Succeed" conference in Indianapolis. McQuade also will attend the "Defuse and Manage Problem Students and Confrontational Parents" conference March 15 in Indianapolis.

The team of Kristen Seward, Susan Shively, Kelly Hillman, Cindy Reinke, and Tyler Sausaman will attend the Career Majors Institute March 20- 21 in Indianapolis. Seward said the Institute, as well as a $40,000 grant that the school will apply for, will help further develop the school's offerings in three career areas - pre-engineering, culinary arts/advanced life science, and childcare.

Requests by the Flora High School Class of 1957 and Flora Little League to use school facilities were approved.

Revised versions of the school's advertising and student fundraising policies are on the corporation's website. The board plans to adopt the policies at its next meeting.

The board also will accept a bid for high school roofing at the next meeting.

Sayers publicly praised the County Highway Department for doing an excellent job of clearing roads for the school buses after the recent blizzard.

O'Connell announced that the sixth grade musical, "Let George Do It," will be March 6. Huckstep announced the following dates: Feb. 28, Battle of the Books at DCHS; March 10, Music Boosters Fish Fry; and March 17, Talent Show.\
