Tri Kappa donates to cancer causes
By Kevin Schnepp Staff writer

Miller
On Feb. 12, Norm and Jane Miller, representing the Delphi chapter of Tri Kappa, presented Don Woodley of Ovar'Coming with a check for over $5,300. Ovar'Coming is a statewide education and resource organization which provides educational programs and research grants in the fight against ovarian cancer.

A check for more than $1,700 was also presented by the Millers to St. Vincent GYN Oncology Research Department, one of the leading ovarian cancer research departments in the nation.

The donations were raised in September during the fourth annual Cheryl Miller 5K Walk.

The walk was started in memory of Cheryl Miller, who passed away Feb. 22, 2003, after a two-year battle with ovarian cancer. The walk's purpose is to raise money and awareness while educating women about symptoms related to ovarian cancer.

Miller said educating women about this type of cancer is important because it is difficult to detect early.

"There is no screening test for the disease," he explained. "Thus women themselves are the first line of defense."

The fifth annual Cheryl Miller Walk is planned for Sept. 22 at the Canal Park in Delphi. Miller encouraged anyone interested in hearing a presentation concerning ovarian cancer or those in need of more information to contact him at (765) 564-4119.
