Disqualification hurts Delphi swim team at sectional

Delphi boys' swim team finished in fifth place Saturday at the West Lafayette Swim Sectional. The boys would have placed as high as third if not for a disqualification of the second seeded, 200 free relay team. The disqualification was protested to the meet committee who agreed that the proper protocols were not followed, but upheld the disqualification.

Freshman Andrew Burton held his third place seed in the 50 freestyle with a time of :23.18 and his second place seed in the 100 freestyle with a school record time of :49.83. Sophomore Kyle Price was fifth in the 200 freestyle in 1:56.26 and third in the 100 backstroke with a :59.40. Sophomore Jeremy Sterrett placed ninth in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.94 and eighth in the 100 freestyle with a :56.05 time.

Sophomore Andrew Flora placed fifth in diving with an 11-dive total of 264.4 and was 11th in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:12.92. Senior Nick Force place eighth in the 50 freestyle with a :24.86 time and was ninth in the 500 freestyle with a 5:34.73 time. Junior Matt Keen placed 11th in the 100 butterfly and freshman Michael Bennett placed 11th in diving with 174.55 points.

Seniors Cole Nattermann and Brandon Miller teamed with Flora and Keen for sixth in the 200 medley relay in 1:54.35. The 400 freestyle relay of Sterrett, Force, Price and Burton held its third place seed with a 3:35.60.

Others placing were: Freshman Brent Kremer, 200 freestyle 23rd, 2:15.48; 100 backstroke 22nd, 1:15.24. Freshman Jared Kelley, 50 freestyle 14th, :25.53;, 100 freestyle 20th, :59.01. Miller 100 butterfly 17th, 1:11.33; 100 backstroke 15th, 1:08.30. Keen 100 breaststroke 15th, 1:14.76, Natterman 22nd, 1:20.96.

The boys had one of the best seasons ever with an 11-win, 3- loss dual record. They lost one meet by two points and another one by 5 points. They also won the Clinton Central Invitational, a tournament the host team had never lost.
