Term limits are needed

Lee Hamilton (in a recent commentary piece) is just another in the long line of apologists arguing to treat the symptoms, but ignoring the root cause of the problem. The simplest way to treat the problem is term limits on all legislators- say two terms (12 years) for U.S. senators, four terms (8 years) for congressmen and commensurate term limits for state legislators. Not only would this limit the power of special interest groups, but would, in my opinion, cause people who had been successful and/or had special abilities to feel/say "This country has been good to me and I will give back by serving for a few years."

Term limits would, hopefully, also ameliorate some of the adversarial vitriol that has become such a part of our political system.
