Dean W. Sanderson

Dean W. Sanderson, 85, of Lafayette, passed away Feb. 15, 2007, at 6:38 a.m. at Home Hospital.

He was born Dec. 30, 1921, in Rockfield, to Evan and Averle Ward Sanderson. He graduated from Carrollton High School. His marriage was to Janette Barnard on Sept. 1, 1946, in Burlington, and she survives.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a specialist yeoman first class from 1942 to 1946.

Mr. Sanderson was the former owner/operator of Barnard Lumber Co. in Burlington.

He was a member of Brady Lane Church of Christ.

He was an instrument-rated pilot who owned his own Cessna airplane. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting morel mushrooms and making homemade ice cream.

Surviving are two daughters, Lynn Garland of Lafayette and Lisa Kiracofe Childers (husband: Bill) of Indianapolis; a sister, Lois Long of Lafayette; a brother, Mitchell Sanderson (wife: Betty) of Flora; seven grandchildren, Cole and Ian Kiracofe, Angie Cox, Carly Foreman (husband: Andrew), Jessie LaGoy (husband: Brian), Zack Garland and Cayman Sanderson; and four greatgrandchildren, Jack Foreman, Owen Foreman, Chelsea LaGoy and Bradon LaGoy.

He was preceded in death by a son, Barnard Dean Sanderson; a sister, Frances Lynch; his parents; and his stepmother, Ruby Sanderson.

Services were held Saturday at Soller-Baker Lafayette Chapel. J. William Overbay officiated and burial was at Burlington Cemetery.
