Cougars split with Falcons Frontier's athletic presence and quickness, along with the lack of defensive play by the Cougars, was too much for Carroll to overcome. The (8-9) Falcons easily defeated the (7-11) Cougars there Thursday night, 83-63. For Frontier, it was lights out shooting as they went 8 of 14 (57%) from the perimeter. Their inside game was even better as they shot 27 of 46 (59%) for 35 of 60 (58%) overall. Carroll missed several 3-foot-and-in attempts and as a result, their inside shooting was only 14 of 39 (36%). They were 6 of 18 (33%) from behind the arch and 20 of 57 (35%) overall. The Cougars were, however, successful from the free throw line, making 17 of 21 attempts (81%), while Frontier was 10 of 15 (67%). The host Falcons never trailed. They jumped out to a 5- 0 advantage and the game was never in doubt. Frontier posted a 23-11 lead after one. They pushed their lead out to 39-20 in the second quarter, but 8 straight points by Carroll's Riley Eller pulled the Cougars to within 11 at 39-28. Frontier then went on an 10-0 run to close out te half and lead 49-28. The Cougars never recovered after the run. Frontier outscored Carroll in every quarter. Eller led the Cougars in scoring with 23 points. Adam Tussinger added 10 points, Kevinm Ives and Jacob Craig had 9 points each. Frontier's Corey Haynes led all scorers with 30 points. Jake Sullivan added 24. Craig led the Cougars in rebounding with 7 board. Eller handed out 6 assists. Carroll's final two regular season games will be home contests. The first will be Taylor on Friday night. Taylor leads the series 7-3. JV Carroll JV outscored Frontier 14-8 in the final quarter to beat the Falcons 48-42 and even their record at 9-9. There were 7 ties and 11 lead changes before the Cougars were able to secure the win. The opening stanza saw 3 ties and 2 lead changes before the host Falcons took a 13-12 lead at the first stop. There were two more ties and 3 lead changes in the second quarter, before a basket by Primmer Zook put the Cougars up 25-23 at the half. The third quarter saw 5 lead changes before a two pointer by Carson Spesard tied the game at 34 as the quarter ended. With the score tied at 38 in the fourth period, an Adam Spesard fielder gave the Cougars the lead for good at 40-38. A. Spesard led the Cougars in scoring with 17 points. C. Spesard had 9 points and Zook and Drew Yoder added 8 points each. |
