Alderman to wrestle in state final
In round one, Alderman wrested Kepchar from Merrillville. Alderman won the match 12-11 in an exciting finish where he got a two near fall in the last few seconds. In the second round, Alderman wrestled Trace Hall of South Bend Riley. He lost a close match 4- 3, putting him in the consolation round, where he defeated Porras of Hobart 2-1. Alderman is the second Oracle wrestler to qualify for state in the past three years. His record is now 41-1. Kameron Banes placed fourth two years ago. Four of Alderman's teammates also competed at the Semi-State. In the 112-pound class, Bob Floyd wrestled Gonzales of Griffith. He lost 7-2. A sophomore, Floyd, whose record was 15-15 last year, finished this season 31-9. Senior Michael Atwood, at 125 pounds, lost his first round match to Grenert of South Bend Riley 4-2, ending his career at Delphi. He finished the season 30-13. With an overall career record of 122-37, Atwood is the second leading wrestler in wins in Delphi history. He also holds the career takedown record with 298. Wes Everett lost his first round match to Palmer of South Bend Riley. 11-7. The sophomore finished his season out with a 30-11 record, compared to 14-9 last year. Freshman Braden Atwood finished his first year of high school wrestling, losing 4-2 to the eventual runner-up, Keener of Warsaw. Atwood compiled a 35-6 record, with all but one of his losses to wrestlers still in state tournament competition. The one that is not he avenged in the sectional finals. The DCHS team finished the season with a dual meet record of 19-4. They were the Hoosier Conference champions, a fete not accomplished since 1994. They were runners up at the Twin Lakes Invitational and placed fifth at sectional, only 40 points out of first place. |
