Early morning fire destroys Camden barn An early morning fire Sunday claimed a large, two-story barn, along with a horse and a calf, near Camden. The house on the Kim Martin property was not damaged and the occupants were spared injury. Camden Fire Chief Chuck Foreman said he was paged to respond to the emergency at approximately 2:45 a.m. "The temperature was about five degrees and the barn was fully engulfed when we arrived," Foreman said. "We had the flames knocked down (extinguished) in about an hour." Foreman said firefighters returned to the scene later in the morning to douse hot spots. Approximately 30 volunteer firefighters from Camden, Delphi Tri-Township and Rockfield departments assisted at the scene. "We had a wonderful mutual aid response," Foreman said. "The frame is still standing, but the building is a total loss. The Homeowners are very upset about the loss of the animals." It is suspected the fire started in an area where a heat lamp was used to keep the horse warm. |
