VANESSA VANSICKLE, a junior attending Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pa., has been honored with initiation into the honor society of Phi Kappa Phi. The ceremony took place on Feb. 11 in Mc- Conomy Auditorium on the CMU campus.

Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 at the University of Maine. It is the nation's oldest, largest, and most selective honor society for all academic disciplines. VanSickle is majoring in music (Bassoon performance), with a minor in German language.

She has just returned from playing and teaching at the Santa Catarina Music Festival near SaoPaulo, Brazil. This festival, under the direction of Alex Klein (former principal oboeist of the Chicago Symphony) attracts students and professionals throughout Brazil and 15 foreign countries, with close to 50% of the students coming from public music schools and low-income families. Community service concerts and teaching lessons are a prerequisite for participation in this select international festival.

Her parents are Tom and Pam VanSickle of Delphi.

Three hundred and six fulltime students of Indiana University Kokomo earned dean's list honors during the fall 2006 semester. The students each earned a minimum 3.5 grade point average (GPA) on a scale of 4.0, while carrying at least 12 credit hours throughout the grading period. Those earning a 4.0 GPA for the semester are indicated by an asterisk:

MATTHEW HEBER, 14, Delphi and MICHAEL MILEY, 15, L a f a y e t t e served as Senate pages for Senator Brandt Hershman on Jan. 29. Pages spend one day at the State House assisting senators and Senate staff with a variety of legislative duties and l e a r n i n g about the Indiana government. Both Heber and Miley are freshmen in home school.

EMILY BOWMAN has been named to the fall semester Dean's List at Indiana Wesleyan University. To qualify, a student must obtain a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale and carry at least 12 credit hours for the semester.
