Bulldogs run away from Cougars Carroll's game against the Class 2A ninth ranked Clinton Central Bulldogs was almost a carbon copy of their game against Northwestern last weekend. The Cougars were able to stay with the Bulldogs for most of the first half, but fell apart in the second half as the Bulldogs ran away from the Cougars 79- 47. This was the most points the Cougars have given up all season. Carroll opened up with 8 unanswered points, but Clinton Central fought back to tie the game at 13. The Bulldogs took a 14-13 lead with 1:12 left in the quarter. A fielder by Jacob Craig put the Cougars up 15-14 with 43 seconds left, but a trey by the Bulldogs gave the visitors a 17-15 lead after one. Carroll spread its offense around in the quarter. Riley Eller had 5 points and Adam Tussinger and Craig had 4 points each. The Cougars never led again, but were able to tie the game at 17. After falling behind by 6 points, 25-19, a conventional three-point play by Eller pulled the Cougars to within 3 at 25-22. From here, Clinton Central took over, going on a 7-0 run to take a 32-22 lead at halftime. It was all Clinton Central in the second half. They came out of the locker room and put up 15 unanswered points on the scoreboard. Before the Cougars knew what had hit them, they were down 25 points, 47-22, and it was game-match point for Clinton Central. Tussinger and Eller led the Cougars with 10 points each. Brad Benson had 7 and Craig 6. Clinton Central was led by Andrew Amos with 25 points and Jordan Tucker with 24. Carroll was 19 of 48 from the field, wile Clinton Central hit 25 of 49. Central outscored Carroll 22 to 7 from the foul line. Next up for the Cougars will be a Thursday night contest at Frontier on Feb. 8. Carroll leads the overall series, 22 to 19. JV are outscored Carroll's Junior Varsity fell to visiting Clinton Central 49-32. The Cougars now stand at 7-9 on the year and 1-3 in the Hoosier Heartland Conference. The Cougars never led in the game. They closed the gap to within 2 points at 7-5, but could not get the lead. The Bulldogs were up 15-9 after one, 27-17 at the half, and 40-24 at the end of three. Adam Spesard was the only Cougars in double figures with 10 points. Kyle Geheb added 7 points and Brad Benson 6. |
