Carroll diver is sectional champion Carroll junior Heather DeLon was Lafayette Sectional diving champion. She competed Tuesday in the diving regional at Avon. At sectional, she scored 340.15 in the finals, with her nearest competitor only scoring 304.65 points. First through eighth place participants will qualify for Saturday's state finals that will be held at the Indiana University Natatorium, IUPUI, Indianapolis. The diving preliminaries and semifinals begin at 9 a.m., with the top 21 of 32 competitors advancing from the prelims to the semis after five dives each. After three dives each in the semis, the top 16 will advance to the final round for another three dives each. Consolations and finals for all events begin at 1 p.m. Carroll girls' swim team finished regular season competition with the best record in Carroll High School history, 16 wins to 5 losses. The girls also won the Hoosier Heartland Conference for the first time since 1999. Coach Roger Nelson complimented his team by saying that they had great depth and great attitudes. |
