Alderman remains undefeated Oracle wrestler Donovan Alderman remains undefeated after Saturday's Individual Regional Tournament held in Logansport. Delphi took seven wrestlers to the tournament and all seven wrestled well, said Coach Mike Atwood. Alderman, wrestling at 119 pounds, raised his season record to 39-0 and won his first regional championship. Alderman pinned his first opponent, Van Ort. In the semi finals he beat Rausch of Winamac 9-0 and in his final match he pinned Kyle Eberle of Harrison in the first period to win the championship. The Oracles had another champ in freshman Braden Atwood at 152 pounds. He pinned his first opponent Snowberger from Winamac. in the first period. In the second round he beat Hook of Twin Lakes for the third time this year, 5-1. In the championship match he beat Nathan Williams of West Central 12-1. His season record is now 35-5. Bob Floyd at 112 finished second, losing to Michael Cataldo of Logansport 5-9. He pinned his first round opponent Wright from South Newton in 0:22. In the semi finals Floyd beat Henry from Rensselaer 6- 2. This was a rematch of the Hoosier Conference finals. Floyd came out on top of this one, running his record to 31-8. Wesley Everett at 285 had a great day on the mat. In round one, Everett wrestled the champion of the Twin Lakes sectional. Beach of Pioneer had only one loss on the year and Everett beat him 14-9. In round two, Everett pinned McDonald in 3:47, avenging a loss from last week. In the finals he had to wrestle the number one ranked wrestler in the state, Bryan Benner of Benton Central. Everett lost a close match to Benner 8-4. His record is now 30-10. Michael Atwood at 125 placed third on the day, pinning Hardy of Pioneer in 3:52. In the semi finals it was a rematch of Cook of Seeger and Atwood. Atwood wrestled tough but lost 13-5. In the consolation match to determine who goes to semi state, Atwood had to wrestle Kyle Purevich of Rensselaer. Atwood pinned him in 1:47 to place third. His record is now 30-12. At 171, Coy Pennington finished his wrestling career by placing fourth. He lost a hard fought match to Alex Burns of West Lafayette 5-6. In the semis, Pennington lost to eventual champion Armen of Lafayette11-2. In round one he pinned Twin Lakes' Ayres in 2:15. He finished the season with a record of 32-9. Tyler Beaudoin also advanced to the tournament, but lost to Cataldo of Logansport. Beaudoin wrestled hard, but fell short. The top three place winners in each class advance to the semi-state this weekend in Merrillville. |
