Entries sought for Historic Preservation photo contest

It's time to start snapping your camera shutters and looking through your recent albums for your best photos of Indiana history.

In preparation for May, which is Historic Preservation Month, the DNR Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology (DHPA) is sponsoring the third annual Historic Preservation Month Photo Contest, which has an April 20, 5 p.m., deadline for entry.

Historic Preservation Month, which was started by the National Trust for Historic Preservation in 1971 to celebrate preservation efforts, is recognized on the local, state, and federal levels.

For the Indiana contest, each photographer may enter up to three images. The subject of the photo must be in Indiana and be at least 50 years old, which is the standard measure for "historic." The photo itself cannot be more than 2 years old, should measure 8 x 10 inches and be matted on an 11 x 14- inch white mat board. Contest rules and the entry form are available online at www.in.gov/dnr/historic. All entries must have an entry form attached.

Select photographs will be on exhibit in the south atrium of the Indiana Statehouse, April 30 to May 11, then at the French Lick Resort Casino, May 14 to June 18.
