Young Cougars win tourney

Carroll Elementary hosted a 6th grade boys' basketball tournament on Saturday, winning the championship trophy. The Cougars defeated Clinton Central 48-21 in the first game and Clinton Prairie 45-16 in the title game. Every member of the team scored in the tournament.

Members of the tournament team are: Taylor Downham, Jacob Bush, Eric Miller, Ryan Spesard, Brady Wiles, Matthew Henderson, Tallis Bowers, Kanaan Pruit, Jay Hodson, and Brian Keith.

The A-team finished the season with a record of 12 wins and three losses.

Carroll 7th defeats Caston

Carroll 7th grade boys' basketball A-team split a pair of games to end its season.

The Cougars defeated Pioneer 37-28 behind Tim Ruby's 18 points. Support came from Chad Griffen with 9 points, Mitchel Bradley's 6 off the bench, and Blake Seward's 4. Bradley and Griffen split 12 rebounds, while Griffen also handed out 4 assists. Daniel Huckstep added 3 steals.

The A-team finished its season in a nip-and-tuck, see-saw battle that saw Caston win in the last minute 36-31. The Comets raised their record to 16-4, while the Cougars ended with an excellent 11-5 season. Ruby and Griffen led with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Seward and Bradley chipped in with 5 points each. Griffen had 8 rebounds and 5 steals while Ruby handed out 3 assists.

Carroll's B-team fell to Pioneer 77-19. Alex Atkisson provided nearly all the scoring with 15 points. Wes Thieke and Trey Overholser had 2 each. Dan Budreau and Thieke led in rebounding with 5 and 4, respectively. Atkisson also added 4 steals.

The B-team won a nail-biter, 19-18, over Caston. The Cougars were led by Budreau and Thieke with 4 points each. Ricky Burns, Matt Downham and Atkisson had 3 each. Overholser added 2.

The B-team Cougars finished their campaign with a 4-7 record.
