Rossville Hornets sting Lady Cougars The Rossville Hornets were so hot on Saturday that they left a brutal sting on the Cougars. The Lady Hornets hit 75% of their shots, only missing three in the third and fourth quarters, to easily subdue the Lady Cougars. Final score was 53-31. The Hornets improved to 6-12 and 1- 4 in the Hoosier Heartland while the Cougars dropped to 6-11 for the season and finished the HHC schedule with no wins. The Hornets controlled the game from the start as the Cougars expected senior Jennifer Kelly to be their offensive threat but she only scored 2 points in the first half while watching her teammates do the damage. The score at the end of the first quarter was 13-3 and the Hornets had blown out the frustrated Cougars with a lead of 25-8 at the end of the second quarter. Kelly took over the game in the third stanza to score 15 points. The Cougars had some encouraging passes from Sarah Brown and Krystal Brazel to Courtney Hall, who finished with 11 points to lead the Cougars in the paint. Abby Reinke (9) got untracked in the fourth quarter to help get the Cougars closer but the game was never in doubt as the Hornets left the stinger in their rivals. The Cougars continue to search for answers. They had a Tuesday night contest at Tri-County, travel to Frontier on Thursday with a 6 p.m. tip-off, and then face a tough Lewis Cass team in a makeup game there on Saturday at 11 a.m. Rossville JV wins The JV game featured an intense, close game with Rossville winning the battle 29-21. The Cougars have continued to dig holes that are hard to climb out of, but they always try hard. Sarah Griffin led the Cougars with 7 points and Lucy Zook helped with 5 points. The Lady JV team fell to 7-6 with this loss. |
