Lessons from the Heart
A new creation thought for the New Year
By Pastor Tom McShannock

McShannock
We begin the New Year within the Body of Christ. That is we are in close association with active Christian disciples. So as one year passes on to a new one we are able to have a little glimpse into the peace and harmony that will be ours in heaven. In our small group bible study groups, in our prayer circles, and in the gathering of the Sunday worship community we find true friendship. We give and receive love, support, acceptance, and honest concern at such a deep level it can not be found anywhere else. We are transformed by this association and fellowship. And because we are in such a positive environment we find ourselves being exposed less and less to some of our old favorite sins. Within the Body of Christ we help each other towards our goal of being with our Master forever. Do I appreciate the wonderful fellowship Jesus won for me?

Meditation for January

The disciples came to Jesus, asking, "Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?" And Jesus put a child in the midst of them and said, "I say to you, unless you become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." Let go of ego and the urge to be in control. Let God be in control. This is the beginning of a child-like spirit. Trust and acceptance are necessary to being able to enjoy the beauty and pleasures of God's world. This is the paradox of God's wonderful realm.

The more we try to build ourselves up, the smaller our world becomes.

The less we make of our selves, the more we have. Simple joy, laughter, and an accepting spirit will go a long way in overcoming a critical and bitter heart.

Prayer for New Years Day

Come Holy Spirit; rekindle within me a child like heart. Today I chose to let you lead me, Lord Jesus, as if I were a child.
