Katherine H. Cook

Katherine H. Howard Cook, 89, passed away Jan. 21, 2007, at 10:20 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi. She moved to the area from Eureka, Ill., to be closer to her son and daughter-inlaw and had been a patient at the healthcare center since Aug. 16, 2001.

Born April 10, 1917, in Florence, Kan., she was the daughter of Elbert and Katie Bloom Howard. She was a 1935 graduate of Florence High School. On Oct. 2, 1937, in Florence, she married Oliver Hazard Perry Cook. He preceded her in death Aug. 9, 1990.

For several years in the 1950s, she was employed in the Industrial Relations Department of the Libby, Mc- Neil and Libby canning factory in Eureka, Kansas. She later became assistant city clerk for the City of Eureka and remained there, until retiring in 1972.

Mrs. Cook was a 56-year member of the Christian Church of Eureka and served as dinner chairman of the Christian Women's Fellowship for several years. She also chaired many other large dinner events in the Eureka community.

She enjoyed homemaking, jingle-writing and crossword puzzles. She won blue ribbons at several Eureka pumpkin festivals for her pumpkin pies. She also won prizes in national contests for her jingles.

Surviving are a son, James Cook (wife: Jacqueline) of Delphi, a stepsister, two grandsons and two greatgranddaughters.

A daughter, Linda Cook, her parents, her stepmother, a half-sister, a half-brother, three stepsisters and two stepbrothers preceded her in death.

A graveside service will be held Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. at the Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka. The Rev. Robert Harnish will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Church of Eureka or St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, in care of Abbott Funeral Home, 421 E. Main St., Delphi, IN 46923, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
