Vikings edge Oracles for consolation in White County Tourney The Delphi boys' basketball team was edged out 37-36 by North White in the consolation game of the White County Tourney. The Oracles lost their first tourney game to Frontier, 59-47. Against Frontier Friday night, the Falcons were warmed up and built a nine point lead before Delphi could score. Jake Sullivan paced the Falcons with a 19 points, 11 coming in the first period. The Oracles were down 20-6 at the end of the first period. The Oracles had balanced scoring for the last three periods, 13 points in the second, 15 points in the third and ending with 13 points in the fourth. The Falcons kept a comfortable lead, scoring 15 in the second and 12 points in each of the remaining quarters. Corey Haynes and Dylan Sterret each had 14 points for Frontier, followed by Jeff Brummett with 7 points. Kyle Stonebraker lead the Oracles with 13 points. Kory Banes added 12 points, Kyle Bender and Justin Snider each contributed 7 points. Dustin Oliver added 6 points and Erik Jones tipped in a basket in the final period to end Delphi's scoring. Saturday saw another slow start for the Oracles as they were down 13 -9 at the end of the first period. The second period the Oracles only hit the rim for 5 points as the Vikings opened a 10 point spread at half, 24 -14. The Oracles also had two players with 3 fouls each and were ahead in the foul category 10-3 at half. The Oracles came out from the break and held the Vikings scoreless in the third to take a 29-24 lead. The Vikings got back on track and tied the game in the opening minutes of the final stanza. Oliver fouled out midway through the fourth and Myers was called for his fifth foul going for a loose ball with about one minute remaining. The victor of this game would win this one from the foul line. The Vikings' Eric Russell made both of his bonus foul shots to win the game 37- 36, capping his 14-point night. Tyson Jones was also in double figures with 12 points for the Vikings (4-8). Kory Banes led Delphi (1-9) with 16 points. Myers and Bender each had 7 points. Stonebraker, Oliver and Snider had 2 points each. Tri County went on to defeat (5-6) Frontier 34-26 in the championship game to remain unbeaten at 10-0. The Oracles are on the road this weekend - Friday night at Sheridan with a 6:30 p.m. start time and Saturday at Lewis Cass for a 6 p.m. start. |
