Relay for Life of Carroll County kicks off for 2007

Carroll County residents kicked off the 2007 annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life event on Tuesday at Pat's Country Barn. Although the Relay For Life of Carroll County is more than five months away, this is the time to get involved. Residents are invited to attend the kick-off celebration to learn more about Relay For Life and how they can become part of the 24-hour event that can lead to a cure for cancer.

Relay For Life is the Society's signature event, dedicated to increasing awareness and raising funds to fight cancer. Teams of family, friends and co-workers camp out for 24 hours, taking turns walking the track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times, a reminder that cancer never sleeps.

The event includes entertainment and family activities, a victory lap by survivors and a luminaria ceremony at dusk that remembers those who have faced cancer.

"Relay For Life brings together cancer survivors, caregivers, families and friends to celebrate life while honoring those who have lost their cancer battle," said Shawna Dreadfulwater, Relay chair. "It is truly inspiring to witness the teamwork and effort that local residents put into making Relay a success each year."

This year donations can be made to this local Relay For Life event and participants can start or join a team by visiting www.acsevents.org/relay/in/car roll. Relay Online is used as a fundraising tool as well as a means of raising awareness regarding types of cancer and information about programs and services offered by the American Cancer Society.

Carroll County Relay For Life will take place on July 20 and 21 at the Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School track from 6 p.m. to 12 noon.

For more information on how to get involved, contact Dreadfulwater at (765) 566-3702 or email: dreadful@geetel.net, or contact the local ACS office at: (765) 455-9905.
