Oracles lose two at home
By Brad Brummett

Friday night Delphi faced Northwestern, a #3 ranked class 2A team.

The JV started the night out with a close game, but coming up short by 2 points, 28-26. Justin Snider opened the first quarter scoring with 6 of his game total 8 points. Erik Jones paced the Oracles with 9 points. The Oracles had the last chance for the victory or tie but couldn't get a shot off before time expired.

Both Oracle teams showed different line-ups due to injuries. Freshman A.J. Beckett is out with an ankle injury for the JV and junior Matt Lewis is out with a knee injury for the varsity. Freshman Tanner Cripe started as varsity point guard and opened the game with a shot from downtown. The Tigers applied pressure on the Oracles and built a comfortable lead, 23 to 8 at the end of the first period.

Later in the game Delphi's injury list got bigger as Michael Myers banged heads with Zavier Sanders and Myers had to take a seat with a cut, having only three points for the Oracles.

Kory Banes led the Oracles with 15 points, 2 baskets from long range. Kyle Bender was also in double figures with 12 points. Snider, seeing varsity action, pitched in 7 points followed by Cripe's 6 points.

Saturday night the Rossville Hornets made the short trip north to Delphi. The JV kept the game close down by 2 after the first period. The Hornets led by 5 at half, then opened up to an 11-point lead as the third period expired. Rossville kept Delphi at bay and went on to win 43-33.

Erik Jones was in the varsity starting line up and grabbed a rebound from a Hornet miss. To no avail, the Hornets swarmed the basket and took a 4-0 lead. Kyle Bender made a free throw to put the Oracles on the board.

Rossville went on a shooting spree and scored 3 unanswered baskets to open a 12 to 1 lead. Dustin Oliver and Banes each made a hoop before the first period closed 16 to 5. Rossville held Delphi scoreless in the second stanza but only scored 6 points.

Andrew Cebulla put back a rebound for 2 points to open the third period for the Oracles. The Hornets scored 18 points, 2 baskets from beyond the line. M. Myers made a trey for the Oracles and K. Banes made a basket and foul shot for an oldfashioned three. Snider added 2 free throws to help Delphi in the third. Myers led Oracle scoring with 7 points, 4 of them coming in the last period. Jones finished with 6 points, all coming in the final period.

Banes and Snider each scored 5 points on the night. Aaron Martin led the Hornets (5 and 4) with 16 points, followed by Jordan Mulligan with 14 points. Final score was 55-28, Rossville.
