Nine hundred people in the Bringhurst area and the northwest section of Flora were evacuated Tuesday night when a fire erupted at Terra International two and a half miles south of Flora on SR 75.
The evacuation was deemed necessary because a chemical cloud was sighted over Bringhurst, moving toward Flora.
The residents remained at Carroll Jr. Sr. High School until early morning when officials determined it was safe to return to their homes.
No one was at the plant when the fire broke out.
Apparently a passerby saw the fire and came to the Flora fire station to report it. Firefighters were already there attending a meeting.
25 YEARS AGO With arctic blasts plummeting the mercury below zero, Carroll County residents withstood the first major winter storm of 1982 as temperatures dropped to 17 degrees below zero with wind chills into the minus forties and fifties as the deep freeze set in over the weekend.
The storm got underway Saturday afternoon and was playing havoc with motorists by Saturday evening due to limited visibility and blowing snows. Delphi fans at the Rossville-Delphi basketball game were urged to go home after the first quarter of the ballgame. Tropper Dick Roth led the caravan home after the game with Sheriff DonRoth following due to the hazardous driving conditions.

One of the major accomplishments of the year in Delphi was the construction of a scout cabin in beautiful Riley Park. The 36x60 ft. building was built with much volunteer labor and liberal donations toward equipment and material. To date a total of $6,155.75 has been contributed by organizations and individuals. Actual cash outlay for the cabin has been $4,799.01. The remaining funds and any additional will be used for equipment and maintenance. Storage cabinets and tables will be bought and about 200 chairs purchased. The rustic type building with vertical cypress siding is complete with furnace, two rest rooms, and fireplace with heatilator. The building was constructed for the use of all groups including both boys and girls. A public dedication is being planned for sometime this winter or spring.

The State of Indiana should be asked and will be in a few days to pave the old Marion, Camden and Delphi pike.
This would give the thriving town of Camden its only State road.
It would be a great thing to have this road paved from the Michigan road to the east city limits of Delphi through Camden and the improvement of this road at this time would be a great thing for the unemployed.
Anyway it would be a heavy traveled road and a great convenience to reach the east and west via a direct route.
From what we are able to learn the people along the right of way would be goad to set their fences back five or ten feet enough to give the state a regular 50 or 60 foot road.

Sunday morning Rev. Father Boccard of Delphi delivered a very forcible address on the saloon question. He stated hat those who were violating the laws were members of his church and he wanted it understood that no man could knowingly infringe upon the laws and remain in his congregation. If they did not propose to obey the laws of the land he wanted them to withdraw from the church. His address created a decided sensation.
