Camden makes improvements to water utility The Camden Town Council voted to replace the alarm system at the water tower at the Dec. 27 year-end council meeting. The decision was made after Utility Superintendent Jerry Snavely explained the alarm system at the town and the options available for notification of problems with the water level. The current auto system has problems and it not being used. The town has been paying Nation Wide Digital $240 a year to monitor the alarm. Snavely explained that a new auto dialer can be installed at a cost of $1,500, thus eliminating the yearly fee. The system will auto dial Snavely and assistant Tom Mears and any other designated persons, and will continue calling until someone responds. The water department will also order a new chlorination system for the treatment plant at a cost of $4,747. The old system, purchased in 1999, has reached its life expectancy. Snavely reported that equipment is being installed on the new town truck. A letter from the Indiana Housing & Community Development Authority indicated that there will be an inspection visit on Jan. 9 at 10 a.m. Business owner Richard Fite brought up areas in town that need cleaning up. The council will address the problems through the town’s marshal and attorney. Year-end transfer resolutions were signed. The first regular meeting of the new year will be Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. in the community building. |
