Burlington approves salary ordinances

Burlington Town Council passed two salary ordinances at its December meeting.

The first addressed compensation for the employees of the sewage utility. The second addressed compensation for officers and employees of the town.

Council members will be compensated per month $80 ($100 for president) from the sewage utility and $155 ($175 for president) from the town.

The clerk-treasurer will receive $248 per week for the billing, maintenance of records and related matters for the sewage utility, along with $600 per month from the town.

The public works commissioner will receive $500 per month for wastewater treatment plant responsibilities and $400 per month for street, alley, town property and sign maintenance.

The town marshal’s compensation will be $605.75 per week, with a $500 per year clothing allowance.

The town judge will receive $335 per month, and the park superintendent, $625 per month.

Township trustee Al Jackson reported on the concession stand extension project. He said that he had hoped the project could have been done locally without involving the state.

Jackson said a lean-to can be added to the stand with a $5 permit, but that would not be as nice as the proposed project. He added that it was his belief that the state rules and regulations that the Council had requested be met were not necessary.

At a special meeting Dec. 29, year-end bills were paid.

The next meeting will be Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. in the town hall.
