Ivy Tech prepares fitness trainers for certification Ivy Tech Community College, Lafayette, will hold an orientation session for area fitness enthusiasts interested in becoming certified personal trainers. The orientation session will be held Jan. 5 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in room 1114, Ivy Hall. The orientation session is free and registration is required. The eight-week course prepared personal health and fitness trainers for professional certification by the National Federation of Professional Trainers (NFPT). The nationally recognized program is one of only six in the nation that has earned accreditation by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA). Successful students may find employment as qualified entry-level fitness trainers. Students must have a high school diploma or GED, be 18 years of age, have one to two years of resistance exercise experience, and be CPR certified prior to taking the certification exam. To register, call (800) 729-6378 to register. More information is available at www.laf.ivytech.edu. “The certification prep course will provide more resident fitness trainers to meet the public’s growing need for quality fitness services and preventative health awareness,” said Craig Lamb, Executive Director of the college’s Department of Workforce and Economic Development. |
