Bearing loads of gifts

Members of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) know their goal to perform fruitful actions in their communities can be achieved because they are strong. That strength comes in many forms. Carroll County ABATE members worked hard this year to collect toys and donations for the Salvation Army Angel Tree by sponsoring an inaugural toy run and receiving a great deal of help from area businesses and individuals. ABATE's efforts were brought to fruition when they delivered truckloads of toys to the Stone Barn on Monday. Pictured loaded down with gifts is Carroll County ABATE co-representative Gerald Wamsher. Chapter representative Jack Switzer is partially visible pulling boxes from the front of the truck bed. Wamsher said the club was very happy to collect so many toys for local children in need with their first effort. "Everybody needs a little help sometime," he said. "We collected clothes, toys, a little bit of everything for just about everybody. We hope this does some good for the kids." Those interested in learning more about the club can join ABATE Carroll County the first Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. at Bresnahan's Restaurant in Pittsburg.
