NIPSCO receives two-year extension of winter warmth program
      Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) has announced that its Winter Warmth Program has been approved to run for two years, through May 31, 2009. The Winter Warmth Program, which began in 2004, is an energy assistance program designed to help low-income NIPSCO natural gas customers with the payment of utility bills and natural gas deposits.

Area agencies on aging offer assistance during Medicare part D open enrollment
      The program offering prescription drug coverage for people with Medicare will begin its second year in January. The Indiana Association of Area Agencies on Aging (IAAAA) has announced it will again offer assistance to those seeking a Medicare prescription drug plan that works best for them whether they are signing up for the first time or looking for a better plan.

Carroll honors community veterans
      The 22 veterans honored Monday at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School gave a total of 119 years of service to their country. Social studies teacher Glen Dillman related the statistic as he moderated the school's Veterans Day program. He said the veterans present were a representative body of all the veterans who live in the community.

      When women of the Flora First Christian Church make their annual trip to Mississippi, they're on a mission. They know what they're doing. They've planned and carried out such trips since 1983. They go to give. They give food, clothing, and household items to poor families living in the Mississippi Delta.

Carroll senior earns Eagle Scout award
      Chris McGrew, has been awarded Boy Scout's highest honor. He was named an Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor celebration held Nov, 4 at the 4-H Community Building in Flora. In order to be considered for an Eagle Scout designation, a Scout must work through the different ranks of Scouting - Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life and then ultimately, Eagle.

ISP to participate in Operation Pull Over
      Troopers from the Indiana State Police Lafayette Post will participate in Operation Pull Over, Blitz #53. This traffic safety blitz is titled "Safe Family Travel, Seat Belts, and DUI." The enforcement campaign will utilize federal funding to allow additional troopers to work overtime and patrol Indiana roadways during the busy Thanksgiving holiday driving season.

Correction
      The results from last week's Municipal Election in the City of Delphi only reflected one precinct in last week's Comet. The vote totals for both precincts are listed below. The outcome remains the same. Democrat Randy J. Strasser defeated the incumbent Republican mayor, Lee Hoard, by a margin of 434 votes (62%) to 264 (38%).
