Program has openings for seniors in need
      National Able Network (NAN) announced openings for residents ages 55 or older who have limited income and are interested in getting back into the workforce. NAN received a $2.3 million one-year grant to coordinate the Title V Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) for Indiana.

Heritage Awards presented at Old Settlers' meeting
      Carroll County residents Richard and Nancy Hicks, Erick and Gayle Peterson and Bob and Elaine Mc- Cain were awarded Carroll County Heritage Awards during the 152nd Old Settlers' Meeting last Saturday. Each family was honored for maintaining and preserving their historic residences.

Hoosiers alerted of massive recall of Chinese-made toys
      Attorney General Steve Carter is urging parents to check their children's toys in the wake of the Fisher-Price announcement recalling 1.5 million Chinese-made toys worldwide. Fisher-Price and the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently urged consumers to remove certain toys from their homes due to potentially dangerous lead poisoning hazards.

Temporary signal installed on U.S. 421 for construction work
      The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) installed a temporary signal at U.S. 421, State Road 18 and State Road 39 to assist with the temporary run-around during the intersection improvement construction project. The signal was turned on Monday.

Animal control commission is revved up for action
      The Carroll County Animal Control Commission was established in 2001 under the leadership of then sheriff, Dennis Randle. By 2005, significant opposition to spending county dollars for the care, feeding and distribution of unwanted animals was voiced by members of the county council.

INDOT lifts restrictions on SR 29
      The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) has announced the completion of a bridge replacement project on State Road 29 over Hurricane Creek, 1.7 miles north of State Road 26 in Clinton County. Construction began in May. The new bridge will enhance motorist safety and mobility. S.R. 29 is open to unrestricted traffic, excluding any changes after final inspection.

Top dogs of Canine Cavalcade
      Riley Park in Delphi was the hot spot for canines during this year's Old Settlers' festival. The day of fun in the sun was centered around Bill Marion's Canine Cavalcade. Dog-focused information and demonstration booths lined the park's open field where 49 person/dog pairings participated in several contests held around midday Saturday.

'What Should I Wear to the Opera?'
      Fashions of yesteryear were modeled in the Carroll County Courthouse last Friday evening. The aisles in the third floor Circuit Courtroom became runways as models Debbie Low, Chanler Norman, Jordyn Bieghler, and Brianna Walters strutted the latest apparel from the 1860s to the early 1900s.

Poker Run planned in Battle Ground
      Battle Ground Lions Club is sponsoring a Motorcycle Poker Run on Aug. 25. The run will begin at 12:01 p.m. from 101 Main Street in Battle Ground. Proceeds from the event will go towards the club's vision screening program for preschool and kindergarten age children and the Reading Is Fundamental (RIF) project for children in grades one through four.

Tuesday deadline for state's Do Not Call list
      August 21 is the next deadline to register for the state's Do Not Call list. Phone numbers placed on the list by midnight EDT Tuesday will begin receiving benefits of the law starting Oct. 1. There are currently more than 1.8 million phone numbers registered on the Do Not Call list.
