Comet staff report

Pictured is the stage in the Lathrope & Ruffing Opera House in Delphi, much like it has looked since the last performance was held there in 1914. The original backdrop, painted by John Ennis for the opening of the opera house in 1882, is still visible. A sign from former downstairs business, C.O. Julius clothing store, can also be seen in storage there. Delphi Preservation Society is currently restoring the facility, located on the third floor of the old City Hall building on the east side of the courthouse square. Scheduled tours, to be held throughout the Old Settlers festival, will begin in the airconditioned DPS lobby next to the red opera house doors. Visitors can also enjoy a fashion exhibit while in the lobby. Additionally, window restoration expert Bill Jackson will be in the opera house describing his craft Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Robin Saiz will also be present to discuss historic wallpapers.
