Carroll wins conference math contest
      Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School took top honors in the Hoosier Heartland Conference Math Contest held April 25 at Lafayette Central Catholic High School. Carroll defeated second place Tri-Central by a score of 1,457 to 1,132. Third place went to Rossville; fourth to Central Catholic; fifth to Clinton Central; and sixth to Clinton Prairie.

      Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School's Science Fair was held in April, with 184 projects exhibited. This is the fourth consecutive year for the event. Students find a topic of interest, do research, design an experiment, gather data and analyze it, compile a written report, and design a display about their project. Community members judge the projects.

      Students at Delphi Community High School have found acts of Personal Responsibility In Daily Effort, or PRIDE, come with direct and indirect rewards. Direct rewards include gifts and prizes for academic excellence. Indirect rewards are the self satisfaction and confidence of knowing the best job has been done.

      Delphi The last storytime this school year will be May 9 and the theme is Garden Fun. Children's librarian Marcia Sledd is busy planning and preparing the 2007 six-week Summer Reading program, "Get a Clue," for grades kindergarten to six. An exhibition of students' work from the Tuesday Afternoon Drawing Studio will be displayed May 16 to June 6.

      JONATHAN NEWELL has a c c e p t e d membership into Phi Kappa Phi at Purdue University. The honor society recognizes sup e r i o r scholarship in all academic majors within the university. Membership is limited to seniors and graduate students who rank in the upper ten percent of their class and juniors who rank in the upper five percent.
