Last week, the Indiana Senate paid tribute to Camden, a Carroll County community of approximately 600 people, with a resolution in honor of its 175th anniversary. A two-day celebration is being planned in July.

Senator Brandt Hershman (R-Wheatfield) authored the resolution, which called the small town "an important part of the history of Indiana."

"Camden is the epitome of Hoosier values," Hershman said. "In this small town, we see a large reflection of the things Indiana residents hold dear."

The town, which began with five houses on the side of a dirt road, has grown into a community established on a busy state highway with relatively easy access to both Indianapolis and Chicago.

Hershman also paid tribute to Ralph J. Rohrabaugh with a memorial resolution. Rohrabaugh, a 33-year veteran of Camden and Carroll County, spearheaded many community improvements. He died on Dec. 17 at the age of 81.

"While he won't be here in person to help Camden celebrate, Ralph will certainly be with the town in spirit," Hershman said. "Ralph's patriotism, sense of duty and love for community continue to be an inspiration to all Camden residents."

Rohrabaugh was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the Asia Theater and Japan.
