Carroll racks up wins in district FFA contests

Carroll FFA Chapter attended the District V Leadership Contests at Clinton Central High School on March 21. The chapter, along with 11 other schools, competed in a variety of proficiency, speaking and demonstration contests.

In the proficiency area, the Carroll chapter entered 14 different areas and placed first in 10 of these. Those receiving first place were: Malena Zook - Ag. Communications. John Zook - Beef Placement. Megan Ayres - Dairy Placement. Sarah Griffin - Diversified Livestock Production. Scott Guckien - Grain Production. Travis Martin - Home and Community Development. Chandler Keown - Small Animal Care. Kevin Knaus - Specialty Animal Production. Walon Peters - Swine Placement. Drake Brown - Wildlife Management.

Those placing second were: Sarah Brown - Beef Production. Primmer Zook - Diversified Ag Production. Justin Moffitt - Diversified Crop Placement. Megan Ayres received a third place in Sheep Production.

The chapter also entered the Chapter Meeting contest at both the senior level and greenhand level.

The senior team, placing first, consisted of Kara Overholser, Courtney Rinehart, Nicole Spesard, Travis Martin, Chandler Keown, Malena Zook, Sarah Griffin, Justin Moffitt, Megan Ayres, Kevin Knaus and Primmer Zook.

Members of the greenhand team, placing second, were Jill Griffin, Emily Fritz, Jared Collins, Brock Richardson, Brent Jenkins, Brandi Flora, Hannah Brewster, and Carly Yoder.

Those placing first in other leadership contests were: Kara Overholser and Sarah Brown - Ag Production Demonstration. Lucia Zook and Katie Pearson - Natural Resources Demonstration. Kierstyn Harper and Morgan Yoder - Horticulture Demonstration. Jill Griffin - Freshman Extemporaneous Public Speaking. Kevin Knaus, Megan Garrison, Jared Collins and Hannah Brewster - Quiz Bowl. Ashley Miller, Megan Ayres, Megan Garrison, John Zook, Carly Yoder, Loreli Siep, and Emily Fritz - Ag Issues.

Placing second were: Chandler Keown and Travis Martin - Food Science Demonstration. Malena Zook - Ag Sales Demonstration. Lydia Hedde - Public Speaking. Jill Griffin - Creed Speaking. Kevin Knaus - Essay. Quincy Eller, Jess Yoder, Paige Barnes, Jake Walker, Jarvis Simmons, Elissa Hudspeth and Hannah Marvin - Discovery Ag Issues.

Taking home third place were: Sarah Griffin - Extemporaneous Public Speaking. Susanna Taylor and Victoria Henderson -Discovery Demonstration.

Others competing in district contests were: Justin Moffitt and Primmer Zook - Ag Mechanics Demonstration. Courtney Rinehart - Job Interview. Ricky Burns, Trey Overholser, Cami Ayres, Jillian Kennedy, Chad Griffin, Daniel Huckstep, Alisha Turnpaugh and Jordan Merry - Discovery Demonstration.
