Sydney Nicole Huseman, Twin Lakes senior
Sydney Nicole Huseman, 18, Monticello, is the daughter of Martin and Katherine Huseman.
The Twin Lakes senior was nominated by her teacher's aid, Kathy Huseman.
Huseman has gone door-to-door collecting new and used caps and/or gloves for the needy. She helps with 4- H and Junior Leaders and is the President for both Junior Leaders and the Union H.E. 4-H Club. She has helped rake leaves during the White County Make A Difference Day for community members unable to do so for themselves. She initiated a cookie bake that made 130 dozen cookies during Thanksgiving for the White County Food Pantry. She has helped coordinate and run the White County Food Pantry drives for the past four years by providing car washes and volunteering to work at the local Monical's Pizza during their tip night to help raise money.
She also helps younger 4-H members with cake decorating techniques and questions for their 4-H projects. During the past four years she has participated in the 4-H membership drives, speaking at surrounding elementary schools to second and third graders.
Huseman volunteers her time at the Monticello-Union Township Public Library helping with the tutoring program. She has also, from eighth grade through her junior year, helped at the Lake Shafer Christian Church two/three nights a week at their day care facility. At her church she participates in the Stations of the Cross Program to help educate adults and children about Christ's death. During her Cadet Teaching class she especially enjoyed working with the special needs students at Eastlawn Elementary School. She felt these unique students required extra attention that she could provide. She also has worked as manager at the Pizza King. She has also taken time off work to volunteer as a 4-H Camp Counselor during the summer.
She has been selected as the 4-H Camp Counselor Director in which she will be responsible for young cabin members and counselors.
Huseman has maintained an honor roll status through high school. She is a member of the National Honor Society and is ranked 28th out of a class of 166 with a grade point average of 3.7 on a 4.0 scale. She is on task to receive an Academic Honors Diploma from the Twin Lakes High School and has been the recipient of the National "I Dare You" Leadership Award. She has received the 4-H White County Medal for Citizenship as well as the 4-H White County Medal for Leadership.
Her extracurricular activities include marching band, concert band, parades, which included performing at the Walt Disney World parade in California, "Roadie" supporting school athletic events, member of the Future Educators of America, Future Farmers of America and Spanish Club.
