Aggressive Panthers quiet Cougars
By Greg Hoffman

Western’s senior dominance was too much for Carroll to overcome last Thursday as the Panthers put Carroll away 70- 52. Carroll now stands at 2-4 on the season, while Western improves to 5-2.

The Cougars stayed with the Panthers early in the first quarter as the lead changed hands four times before Western went up 9-8. The hosts led 19-15 after one. This was as close as the Cougars would get. The Panthers increased their lead at every stop, 34-21 at the half, 54-36 after three. Their biggest lead of 22 points came late in the fourth quarter.

The Panthers used their quickness and aggressive play to keep Carroll at bay. The Cougars turned the ball over 20 times to only 9 for Western.

The hosts won this one from behind the arch. They outscored Carroll 27-6. Carroll was 2 of 7 while Western hit 9 of 20 trey attempts. Overall, the Cougars were 19 of 38 from the field and 12 of 15 from the line. Western was 28 of 55 and 5 of 7 from the line.

Adam Tussinger led Carroll with 20 points. Jacob Craig had 13 and Riley Eller 9 points. Carrol won the rebound battle 23 to 14 as Tussinger had 8 and Craig 5. Jason Hazel and Eller handed out 4 assists each.

Next up for the Cougars is the Clinton Central Holiday Tourney. Carroll will face the host Bulldogs in the second game Wednesday night.
