December coat swap is underway in Delphi. Good used winter coats, in children’s and adult sizes, can be dropped off at PSI Energy. Coats will be cleaned free by the Delphi laundromat and dropped off at the Masonic Building where they will be available free to anyone who needs a coat.
Flora Rotary Club, like hundreds of others around the country, has helped raise funds to put Rotary International’s 1997 float in the annual Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year’s morning.Taking place in Pasadena, CA, but broadcast to more than 400 million television viewers the world over, the Rose Parade helps Rotary carry its message of “Service Above Self” to people who would otherwise not hear about it.

Carroll’s selection of Player of the Week is 6’1” senior Jeff Johnson. He made significant improvement in Carroll’s weekend victories and his leadership and enthusiasm were important to the Cougar attack. Sophomore Dave Syphers earned this week’s honor for the Oracles. His combined totals for both weekend games were 6 of 13 from the field and 19 of 23 at the free throw line for a total of 31 points.
50 YEARS AGO
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Israel, 738 Mills St., were somewhat amazed and awed at the close of Christmas Day, about 9:15 Tuesday evening, to see a huge smoking ball of fire falling through the air which they decided was a meteor. Although the meteor appeared to be very close, they presumed it must be some distance away.
The Carroll County Institute of Christian Living Teacher Training School will be held this year in the Lutheran Church in Camden.
75 YEARS AGO
Already farmers are beginning to pay their dues in the Carroll County Farm Bureau for 1932. The first man to pay his dues for was F.S. Girard of Adams Township. Four other farmers from Jefferson, Tippecanoe, Washington and Adams townships have paid their dues as well. Any farmer wishing to pay his dues for 1932 may leave them at the county agent’s office in Delphi or hand them to the township drive manager.
J. L. Whiteman, auditor of Carroll County, has received word from the state auditor that his December statement sheets were found to be correct. Mr. Whiteman is always one of the first auditors and it has never been returned for correction.
The members of the Grand Jury made a report to Judge Pruitt after visiting the poor farm and county jail with a recommendation the county buy new beds and a new motor pump to pump water at the county farm and to repair the plastering in the kitchen at the farm. The jail was found in good condition.
100 YEARS AGO
Frank Myer was surprised for the first time in his life Sunday, and the fifty present say they never seen a more surprised person. The visitors called to remind Frank he was sixty years old that day and in order to show the guests he appreciated their presence he simply stated aloud that they “had him” and the home was theirs. The day was pleasantly spent, the dinner being a sumptuous one. For “revenge” Frank commanded that Jesse Johnson and Wm. Myer be “rolled” in the snow and after the
performance all felt they had been to a circus.
