Cougar mat men defeat Vikings

The Carroll Cougar wrestling team defeated the North White Vikings 42-33 last week. Winners for Carroll were: Jared Collins at 119 pounds; Cody Meade at 125; Sam Scharer at 130; Andrew Hughes at 152; Josh Holda at 171; Pete Steidten at 189; and heavyweight Zach Glascock.

The Cougars' next meet is Tuesday when the Oracles of Delphi come calling. The Cougars also travel to Frankton on Saturday for an invitational.

Carroll 7th compiles 4-2 record

Carroll 7th grade opened their basketball season against a very good Western team and were soundly defeated 58-16. Mitchel Bradley had 5 rebounds and Chad Griffin 3 assists for the Cougars.

The young Cougars came back defeating North White 36-12. Tim Ruby had 10 points and 3 assists, while Griffin chipped in with 7 points and 3 assists. Bradley had 9 rebounds and Daniel Huckstep grabbed 5.

The host Frankfort Hot Dogs downed Carroll 59-39. Ruby led the Cougars with 14 points. Carroll evened its record for the year at 2-2 with a 34-24 win over visiting Rossville. Griffin led with 14 points. Huckstep and Blake Cromer split 8 rebounds. Huckstep also handed out 3 assists.

The Cougars went to 3-2 with a 31-10 win over host Tri-County. Carroll was led in scoring by Blake Seward with 7. Griffin and Ruby each had 6. Griffin grabbed 7 boards and Huckstep 5, while Griffin had 3 assists.

The Cougars concluded their two-week stretch by playing their best game of the season, defeating Clinton Prairie 52-22. Ruby and Griffin split 24 points. Brady Noonkester came off the bench and scored 7 points. The Cougars led 37-10 a the half. Griffin and Noonkester had 7 and rebounds, respectively. Ruby and Jeremy Hayes handed out 3 assists apiece.

B-squad

Western defeated Carroll's B-team 33-18. Matt Downham had 6 points while Dan Budreau and Trey Overholser split 8.

Frankfort defeated the Cougars 37-13. Noonkester had 6 points.

The Cougars got their first win of the season with a 32-25 victory over Rossville. Overholser with 12 points and Alex Atkisson with 10 led their team in scoring. Budreau and Atkisson split 10 rebounds. Noonkester had 3 assists.

Carroll evened its record to 2-2 with a 33-24 win over Tri County. Atkisson led scoring with 12 points. Budreau added 5.

The team went above .500 with a 37-23 victory over Clinton Prairie. Balanced scoring helped the Cougars who were led by Atkisson with 8 and Budreau with 7. Noonkester had 7 boards and Budreau 5.
