Oracle wrestlers topple Cougars

Delphi and Carroll wrestling teams faced off in their annual match, with the Oracles coming out on top 60-18.
The match began at 103- pounds with Randy McIlrath winning by forfeit for Delphi. Bob Floyd from Delphi beat Kasey Kult from Carroll 12-0. At 119 Don Alderman remained undefeated, pinning Chase Meade in 3:02.
Carroll got on the board at 125 when Sam Scharer pinned Michael Atwood in 3:23. Cory Smith from Delphi won a close match at 130, 8-6 over Holden Kelley. At 135 Andrew Fritz of Carroll pinned Kyle Lashley in 0:45. Carroll continued winning at 140 when Joe Prater pinned Miquel Montero in 2:03.
Cody Hayden won by forfeit at 145 for the Oracles. Braden Atwood at 152 won by tech falling Hughes 17-2. Shane Evans from Delphi pinned Walters in 1:40. Coy Pennington at 171 pinned Josh Holda. Brandon Delaney won by forfeit at 189 for the Oracles. Delphi's Ryan Delaney pinned Justin Buttice in 2:35 and Wes Everett pinned Zach Glascock in 1:19.
On Saturday, the Oracles competed in the Winamac Super Six. The Oracles fell just two points short of winning the team trophy to Culver Military, 32-30.
Individual champions for the tournament were 103 - Gabe Kane 5-0, 119 - Don Alderman 5- 0, 152 - Braden Atwood 4-1, 171 - Coy Pennington 5-0, 215 - Carlos Garcia 4-0, and 285 - Wesley Everett 5-0.
Winning four matches on the day were 112 - Bob Floyd, 125 - Michael Atwood, and 160 - Shane Evans. Winning two were 130 - Cory Smith and 189 - Brandon Delaney. Winning a match on the day were 135/140 - Kyle Lashley, 140 - Tyler Beaudoin, and 145 - Cody Hayden.
The teams scored as follows: Delphi 51, Caston 24; Delphi 42, Winamac 32; Delphi 60, Mississenewa 20; Delphi 63, West Central 9, setting up the final match with Culver Military. Culver started out dominating the match with six matches left. Delphi had to win all six matches. Not only did they have to win all six they had to pin five of the six Culver wrestlers. Culver edged the Oracles 32-30.
The Oracles will wrestle their first home meet of the season Thursday, starting at 6 p.m.
