Emmert H. Root

Emmert H. Root, 74, of Flora, passed away at 7:45 p.m., Dec. 3, 2006, at his residence. He had been in failing health for eight years.

He was born May 2, 1932, in Waterford, Calif., to John and Ada Byerly Root. On Sept. 4, 1948, he married Mary L. Price and she survives in Flora.

Mr. Root was a farmer and a carpenter who enjoyed reading the Bible. He was a member of the Plevna Dunkard Brethren Church.

Surviving are one son, Michael J. Root (wife: Diane) of Delano, Tenn.; two daughters, Rachelle Mahin (husband: Ed) of Goshen and Sharon Flora (husband: Wayne) of Bringhurst; one brother, Ben Root of Pasco, Wash.; and four sisters, Ruby Bowman of Wickenburg, Ariz., Mildred Miller and Adaline Holsinger, both of Modesto, Calif., and Betty Knaus of Eaton, Ohio.

Also surviving are two sisters-inlaw, Betty Harms and Lois Root, both of Modesto, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, Wednesday, at the Flora Old German Baptist Brethren Church. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Flora.
