Comet wins awards The Carroll County Comet garnered three awards at the 40th annual Better Newspaper Contest awards luncheon held Saturday at the Indiana Convention Center. Staff writer Jennifer Archibald won second place in the best sports news or feature coverage category. Her story, "60 years ago - Flora team in Final Four" appeared on Jan. 25, 2006. Archibald also won third place in the best feature photo category for a harvest sunset picture entitled "For everything there is a season..." that appeared on page 1 in the Oct. 12, 2005 issue. "Vibrant colors, image has an interesting 'timeless' quality," the judges said. Comet staff earned a second place in the best headline writing category. Entries were: "Nothing natural about the cost of gas," "Moooove over pigs? German family wants to build county's first mega dairy," and "Sedate debate, Republicans keep the gloves on and keep it civil." The contest is sponsored by the Hoosier State Press Association Foundation. |
