Recount commission set
Comet staff report

Carroll Circuit Court Judge Donald Currie appointed a threemember recount commission to respond to a petition of request for a recount of the results of the last election by Republican party chair Tom Gray.

Gray requested a recount in the Jackson and Liberty townships' advisory board races.

Democrat Denise Strasser, Republican Carolyn Pearson and Republican Beth Myers were appointed to the task of recounting ballots in the two races.

Two court orders, one for each race, were filed Nov. 30 in circuit court. Per each order, each commission member will receive $100 for each day engaged in making the recount.

Gray, as petitioner, was required to post a $100 bond or deposit for each race for which he requested a recount.

Court documents ordered the county sheriff's department to impound the voting systems, ballots, tally sheets, canvas sheets and poll lists relating to votes cast in both races.

County clerk and election board member Laura Sterrett confirmed the voting materials

were removed from the clerk's office by representatives of the sheriff's department.

The commission is scheduled to meet Dec. 11 at 1:30 p.m. at the clerk's office on the second floor of the courthouse.
