Be an angel to a child

Some children from less fortunate families in Carroll County do not always have many gifts, if any at all, to open during the holidays. Thanks to efforts of the Salvation Army Angel Tag program, they have a chance to see more presents under the tree this year.

It will take the efforts of those in the area who have more than they need to make the project a success.

"There are more people who do without in this community than people know," said Kim Widner of the Salvation Army. "The goal of the Angel Tags is to help every child with a need have a wonderful Christmas."

Trees in the Carroll County Courthouse and Alco, both at Delphi, are adorned with tags stating the name of the child and a gift they would like. Anyone may choose a tag from the trees and purchase the gift. Donors should then take the gifts to the Salvation Army.

According to Widner, about 25 children's names are on the tags this year, and two families are being sponsored by a local church.

"The tags may contain special requests such as the child can't wear cotton or the parents wish no violent toys be purchased," commented Widner. She said she hopes donors honor the wishes of the parents and follow those requests.

Widner stated the gifts should contain batteries if necessary and price tags should be removed. She asked that gifts not be wrapped, but gift boxes or wrapping paper can be sent along with them.

Gifts should be returned to the Salvation Army, 700 N. Washington St. in Delphi, with the tag attached to it before 2 p.m. on Dec. 15.

"Through the generosity of those who purchased gifts for these children, they have helped the Salvation Army in its fight against despair," Widner noted.

"To someone with very little, your caring means everything. Together we will help work miracles in others' lives."
