Community Thanksgiving Dinner
Flora United Methodist Church prepared 18 turkeys and all the trimmings for its Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 9. More than 400 people were served. Members of the church speculate that the community dinner has been held annually since 1925, which is the same year the present church building was constructed. The ladies don't peel the potatoes for the meal anymore or can the green beans the summer before, but a traditional Thanksgiving feast is still served. Two of the servers pictured are Joyce Sparks, dishing up sweet potatoes, and Dr. Alvan Eller, scooping up mashed potatoes. After going through the serving line, dinner guests help themselves to the salad table, and then pick up a piece of homemade pie. Shown at the pie table (l-r) are Frances Flora and Arlene Eller.
