Bringhurst teen Tyler S. Jenkins has been awarded Boy Scouting's highest honor. He was named an Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor celebration held Nov 4 at the Flora Scout Cabin.

In order to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a scout must work through the different ranks of Scouting: Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, Life, then ultimately Eagle. Different skills and leadership traits are taught in each rank. To better his community and leadership skills, the scout's final project is to plan and carry out a service project.

Jenkins' project was to design and create the frame work for a memorial in honor of the Flora Volunteer Fire Department, past through present members. Through donations, planning and the help of volunteers his project now stands ready for the sign to be put in place by the Flora VFD.

Jenkins' grandmother, Reita Faucett, received the Mother's Award in honor of his mother, who is deceased. Jenkins' father, Lyle Scott Jenkins, who is also an Eagle Scout, received the Father's Award and presented him with the Eagle Medal.

Debbie Ingersoll and Dewayne Pirtle received Mentor Award lapel pins from Jenkins for their countless hours of friendship and encouragement.

A reception with family and friends followed the ceremony.

A senior at Carroll Jr.-Sr. High School, Jenkins is an honor roll student. He plans to attend Purdue University and study agri-business management. He is also a junior fireman on the Flora VFD and is registered as an adult Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 144 of Flora.
