The first grade art enrichment class of Carroll Elementary School, taught by Grace Woodruff, has a new art exhibit on display in the Richter Program Room. There are four different types of artist techniques that the children made. In the tradition of Albrecht Durer and Henri Rousseau, the children made their own "Great Piece of Turf." Using line shapes and dark and light greens the children drew bugs, plants and flowers.

The artist Piet Mondrian from Netherland was the inspiration for two projects. First, "Upside Down or Right Side Up?" landscapes were drawn with the reflections in water. Mondrian became famous for his abstracts. Look for the abstracts by the class that feature black, white, gray, and primary colors of red, blue and yellow that were chosen because they are not normally found in nature.

Shapes were used to make ordinary objects such as circles and triangles that become ice cream cones. This is a technique of modern advertising. Lastly, the children drew self portraits shown in the "All Kinds of Faces" exhibit. The show will be displayed through Dec. 10.

The Saturday morning book discussion group will meet Dec. 2. We will be taking our annual Christmas celebration field trip to a well-known bookstore in Lafayette. New members are always welcome!
