Scrabble Scrimmage for Literacy

First place team Thirty-nine people on 10 teams tested their word knowledge at the first Scrabble Scrimmage for Literacy held Nov. 2 at the Delphi Community High School Commons. Teams played three 20-minute rounds to create the most words and earn the most points per round for a cumulative point total at the end. First place team was the Great American Librarians. Team members pictured are, from left: Kelly Currie, Cathy Kesterson, Marcia Sledd and Mike Cruz. Delphi Psi Iota Xi chapter hosted the event, assisted by the Flora chapter. All proceeds raised will be used by Carroll County Advocates for Literacy, Inc. for the Adult Tutoring Program and Literacy Support Fund. Photo provided
Second place team Second place team and best costume award at the first Scrabble Scrimmage for Literacy was the MOP Squad. Team members pictured are from left: Alisa Bieghler, Kay Ross, Angie Murray, and Margaret Mose. Third place honors went to GodSpellers, comprised of Lisa Disinger, Rhonda Ladd, Jennifer Hudson, and Allison Cocanower. The highest scoring word for the night, sequence, was created by Jeff Shuler, a member of the Delphi Kiwanis team. During the MATHEWS evening 40 door prizes, donated by area businesses and individuals, were given away. Photo
