Soccer/softball field at CJSHS progressing Carroll Superintendent John Sayers announced at the board of trustees meeting Oct. 17 that the soccer/softball field has been seeded. He said the newly formed soccer/ softball project committee has met and discussed location for scoreboards, dugouts, press box, concession stand, restrooms, and a well. Sayers added that the planting of white pine trees at the edge of the project area is also being considered. Board president Sam Zook said the softball field probably won't be ready for the beginning of the next season, but it may be completed before the end of the season. The board approved the recommendation from CJSHS principal Charles Huckstep on where the proceeds are to be distributed from the various vending machines at the school. The proceeds from two Coke machines and a Powerade machine will go to student services. Examples of student services are financial assistance to students for field trips, and memorial flowers. Money from the snack machine will go to the Student Council for activities they sponsor or for field trip financial assistance. Proceeds from the vending machine located in the teachers' workroom (used only by staff members) will go for funeral flowers, snacks for staff development days, field trips, and any other staff activity approved by the school principal. The board adopted a resolution transferring property north of the old Flora School to the Carroll Education Foundation. The CEF will hold it "in trust" and be responsible for the ground and for any income derived from it. The Cougar Blues were given permission to sell food as a fundraiser on two weekends at "The Haunted" Adams Mill. Personnel approved were: Jana Conn, volunteer sixth grade girls' basketball coach; Jim Enoch and Shawn Wickersham, additional volunteers for the elementary boys' basketball feeder program. A resignation was accepted from Leslie Eikenberry, as assistant Junior Class sponsor. Two requests were approved: YMCA to use a school bus for transporting children to Skiles Orchard and Kenny Orem's pumpkin patch, and Girl Scouts for use of Carroll Elementary School for Brownie troop meetings. The following conference and field trip requests were approved: v Cindy Reinke to take FCCLA members to workshops Nov. 2 at Indiana University Kokomo. v Rhoda Kratz and Dennis Eckerley to take French classes and Spanish 3 and 4 classes to the International Fest Nov. 3 at the Indianapolis fairgrounds. v Tyler Sausaman to attend the Technology Educators of Indiana Conference Nov. 6 in Lafayette. v Scot Collins and Sausaman to take students interested in construction to the Ivy Tech Building Trades facility Nov. 14. v Gary Duff to attend the Advanced Placement Workshop Nov. 21 at Butler University. v Jason Burns to attend the AP Chemistry Workshop Nov. 21 at Butler University. Huckstep praised the Family Resource Network for all they do at the school, and announced that the fall play, "Guys and Dolls," will be Nov. 17, 18, and 19. The board held an executive session pertaining to collective bargaining following the regular meeting, and another executive session for the same reason on Oct. 20. The next regular board meeting will be Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in the Administration Building. |
